Formed originally in 1997 by Sergeant Marty McSweeney, the Columbus Police & Fire Pipes & Drums have grown into one of the most popular and well known representatives of the City of Columbus.
The band is composed entirely of active, full-time Columbus police officers and firefighters. The band represents the Divisions of Police and Fire at ceremonial events. However, each member believes that the most important function of the band is to perform at the funerals of those police officers and firefighters who have died in the line of duty. They feel that there is no greater honor then to pipe these heroes home to their final rest.
In its seventeen year history the band has over one thousand performances to its credit. They have had the privilege to perform in places such as Chicago, New York, and as far away as Edinburgh, Scotland. The band has marched with the world famous Scots Guards in Las Vegas and were also participants in New York City for the ten year anniversary of 9/11.
